Ultimately we learn by doing, not by reading a manual.

Some days we act if we're on a stage, performing for an audience. Even when we think we're doing well, we can't be happy until we know what our audience thinks of our performance. The problem is, we can never know for sure before- or even after the fact- what other people are really thinking.

What others think of me matters, but it shouldn't matter as much as what I think of myself. (Daily Book of Positive Quotations)

The problems of the world - or even the problems of our local community - can seem overwhelming. How can we make a difference? Alone, it's difficult to make significant change; but when we work with others, even on a small scale, the chances that we can make a difference increase dramatically. (Daily Book of Positive Quotations)
Don't fell like you have to tackle every problem in "your world" by yourself. There are many others who may care about the same things you do. Together, you can make a difference!

Thought For The Day:  "To a quick question, give a slow answer." Italian Proverb Quick wit is much admired. We're impressed by those who can toss off a clever remark on the spur of the moment, seemingly without effort. A more thoughtful and reasoned remark takes longer. But it can last longer as well. Wouldn't we rather be admired for our wisdom than for our jokes?

I can stop to think before I answer a question. If I do, what I end up saying is likely to be more useful and true than if I spoke quickly without thinking. And more importantly, I'm less likely to say something I'll regret. (Daily Book of Positive Quotations)

Thought For The Day:  "It is better to offer no excuse than a bad one." George Washington

From: "The Daily Book of Positive Quotations" by Linda Picone:
We all make mistakes. The problem isn't so much making mistakes as the lengths to which we sometimes go to defend ourselves when we make them. However deep the hole that making the mistake has put us in it just gets deeper the more we try to explain ourselves. If we would simply say, "I was wrong" and move on, we wouldn't waste so much of our time and energy, and the people around us would respect us more.

Today, I will try to calmly admit any mistake today.. and then move on.

02/19/10

Pt. 2: DCMS Athletic Banquet will be held on Thursday, February 25th.

Thought For The Day:  "There is only one time when it is essential to awaken, that time is now." Buddha

Even with our eyes open, we sometimes go through our days as if we're sleepwalking. These are the only day we have; we need to be aware of them. The Daily Book of Positive Quotations

Thought For The Day:  "Who being loved, is poor? Oscar Wilder
Excerpt from Linda Picone's book "The Daily Book of Positive Quotations: The Beatles sang that "money can't buy you love." It's true. Love is its own sort of wealth, more precious than any material wealth. And if we were to sit down and really tally this wealth, we might be surprised at how well off we are.
The love of a spouse, family member, or friends can quickly add up. One thing we have to remember, though: Love is like friendship. We can't expect to receive it unless we're willing to give it in kind."

Thought For The Day:  "Mistakes are the portals of discovery"
James Joyce
None of us like to make mistakes but all of us do from time to time. Some bigger than others, at times they embarrass us, make us feel stupid, or make us want to give up. We must never let mistakes keep us from learning. Mistakes open the door for new learning and possibilities. When you make a mistake, learn from it, and try hard not to make that same mistake again. When someone else makes a mistake, instead of embarrassing them, ridiculing them, or letting everybody else know, empathize with them and know you next mistake is just around the corner!

Thought For The Day:  "In charity there is no excess." Sir Francis Bacon
As the saying goes, "Gives until it hurts". But true, selfless giving - of ourselves as well as our possessions - should never hurt. The more we freely and willingly give to others, the more we give to ourselves.
Think: I will offer myself in some way that is helpful to others, without resenting the time or effort it takes. " The Daily Book of Positive Quotations by Linda Picone

Ask yourself: "What friend have I not talked to in far too long? Or perhaps what friend have I ignored lately. Why is it that often we think if  we make new friends, we can't maintain our old friendships, we ignore or exclude them?
