Decatur County Middle School issues a Student Planner to each student at
the beginning of the school year. The planner contains the student handbook
and also serves as their assignment book. To access the online planner you
will need the
Acrobat Reader, a free download from Adobe.
Annual notices distributed with students planners
may also be downloaded here.
The following letter is printed on
page 2 of the student planner.
To the student:
This handbook has been designed to give you important information about
the operation of Decatur County Middle School. You and your families will
find this handbook helpful in learning about school policies and programs.
If you or your parents have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to
seek help from the school staff and from the administrative team.
The focus at Decatur County Middle School is student learning, the basis
for future success. To this end, students must be in class on time,
participate actively as responsible learners, and complete assigned work.
There are many opportunities for you to become involved, both academically
and extracurricular. We encourage you to get involved. Your success at DCMS
will depend largely upon you. If you encounter difficulties anytime
throughout the school year, you are encouraged to seek help of nay of our
trained professionals (teachers, counselors and/or administrators). We will
do our best to help you. Together, we can make your time at DCMS both
educationally challenging and enjoyable.
The student planner is given to you on loan. We want you to use it to
its fullest. You are expected to have it at school with you each day. I
encourage you to write down assignments, test dates, study times,
appointments and short term as well as long term goals. Organizing what,
when and where you study will make you a better student. It will help
you reduce stress, make you feel good about yourself and lead you to a
successful middle school experience.
The planner is also a means of communication between your parents and
teachers. It is your responsibility to make sure your teachers write down
your grades in your planner and that your parents see your planner on a
daily basis.
There is no charge for the planner and at the end of the school year it
will be yours to keep. However, if you lose it anytime during the year you
will be expected to pay $5.00 for a replacement.
