Activities
and Opportunities available at DCMS
Accelerated Math helps to ensure success for every student--average,
gifted, and remedial. It strengthens the existing curriculum
and provides the timely information needed to personalize
instruction and meet state standards.
Accelerated Math software generates
personalized math assignments at each student's level, then
scores them automatically, helping each of our students to
practice the precise skills necessary to move ahead at their
own pace. Detailed reports and record-keeping functions give
their educators a daily snapshot of each student's progress
and mastery. Teachers then use these reports to identify
specific problem areas and solve them.
Research demonstrates that Accelerated Math
enables teachers to target instruction and accelerate math
growth for students of all ability levels and meets the
requirements of the No Child Left Behind Act.More
information about Accelerated Math is available at

Accelerated Reader,
reading management software, provides teachers with an
effective way to monitor all forms of guided reading
practice. With Accelerated Reader, teachers get detailed,
objective data to target instruction and ensure success for
every student, regardless of reading level.
Research
shows that Accelerated Reader helps teachers raise scores on
state tests and ensure mastery of standards. Accelerated
Reader helps students to focus attention on careful reading
of books, which improves students’ critical-thinking skills
and builds an intrinsic love of reading.
Student progress is measured with “AR
points”, earned through taking quizzes on the books they
have read. Top readers are announced each six weeks, with
rewards provided by the library for those students who have
accumulated the required levels.
